Call for Proposals
The Office of Leadership Development is making plans for the 2017 Fall Student Leadership Conference, and we would love for you to be involved.
The one-day leadership conference for current Temple students focuses on building self-awareness and developing tools to understand oneself as a leader. The largest leadership conference for Temple students is in its 12th year, and regularly registers hundreds of students from Temple’s 17 schools and colleges.
The conference is Saturday, October 21, 2017, from 10:30am-4pm in the Howard Gittis Student Center. The program will begin in Room 200 and utilize all rooms on the second floor. Participants attend a keynote and then three session blocks that include presentations, workshops, dialogues and panels on topics related to the theme. This year’s conference theme is “Leading with Purpose”.
The conference planning committee is now accepting proposals for 2017. Please click the link below to submit your proposal.
The submission deadline is Friday, September 29, 2017 at 5 pm.

In preparing your proposals, we identified a few key terms connected to this year’s theme. Our department uses the leadership definition from the classic college student leadership development text, The Leadership Challenge, which states that “leadership is the process of motivating others to struggle towards an inspired vision”. The same book, written by James Kouzes and Barry Posner, defines a leader as the person who guides the process above. This year, we are highlighting the importance of purpose, which is defined as the intention one has to execute a goal, initiative or project. Leaders with purpose are aware of who they are and what they want. Thus, they collaborate or create a team of others who have a similar goal of creating positive change.
Please note: All presentations are for college students. Please submit no more than two proposals, either as a main presenter or co-presenter. Undergraduate students are not allowed to submit proposals. All proposals will be reviewed by the planning committee, and all presenters will be notified by 4 pm on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.
